DETAILS

Journey through Black Broadway is an interactive virtual workshop where participants will be transported as far back as 100 years to a prominent hub for Black arts and business—DC’s own U Street Corridor! While many have heard of the Harlem Renaissance, not many people know that DC had its own buzzing cultural scene that birthed and celebrated some of America’s greatest artists, intellectuals and cultural leaders. After learning about the colorful history of the U Street Corridor, participants will make their own zines to share the story with others using simple materials like paper, markers, and scissors. The goal of this workshop is to celebrate the rich history of a cultural mecca, past and present, that many simply know today as ‘home.’ This workshop will be held over Zoom. Suggested supplies: Paper Scissors Pens/Markers Old magazines/newspapers (optional) Glue sticks (optional) Registration is closed for this event.
